About Christian Elsen

Christian started as a Software Engineer with Cisco’s Technology Center, focusing on Disruptive Innovation and Prototyping for Remote Collaboration Systems. Next, in his role as a  Technology Advisory for Data Center and Virtualization at Cisco, Christian served as a trusted advisory for M&A deals, strategy alignment as well as product and services category definition in the emerging space of data centers and virtualization technology.

As a product manager for Technology Intelligence and Strategy, Christian spearheaded Cisco’s Technology Intelligence effort, capturing and delivering information on technology trends, opportunities and threats to enable informed decision making at the executive level.

In 2012 Christian joined VMware’s Integration Engineering team, where he provided constructive feedback to product management and engineering on the implementation and operation of VMware and partner products and technologies within a cloud environment, with a focus on the networking and security eco-system and ITIL based and other operational processes. This includes architecture and implementation of virtual lab topologies with emerging VMware product releases, in order to showcase new features and product changes as part of the customer beta program, as well as the VMworld Hands-on Labs.

Later Christian worked as an Integration Architect on VMware Validated Designs, where he architected and designed Software Defined Data Centers (SDDC), providing clear and prescriptive guidance on how to deliver successful IT Outcomes for Customers. He did so by introducing modern cloud concepts for modularity, availability, performance, manageability, and security into the design. Furthermore he consulted Engineering and Product Management on improving IPv6 readiness in the VMware vSphere suite for service provider and enterprise adoption.

In 2015 Christian joined CloudFlare as a Product Manager, launching HTTP/2 support and quadrupling the number of HTTP/2 powered sites.

Joining Amazon Web Services (AWS) as an Enterprise Support Lead in 2016, Christian served as a dedicated technical point of contact for a strategic AWS customer with the Enterprise support organization. He worked across customer organizations to ensure customer’s applications in AWS were well designed and scaled to the needs of large events and business initiatives. He acted as the voice of the customer within AWS to escalate problems and to drive prioritization of business needs. Furthermore he lead and assisted strategic AWS customers with application performance and architecture improvements, cost optimization, deployment planning, and problem resolution.

Currently he works for Amazon Web Services (AWS) as a Principal Networking Solutions Architect, where he designs Networking Solutions for AWS customers and partners, contributes to external publications such as blogs, whitepapers and reference architectures, as well as internal trainings.
